Cardiogen
Cardiogen
Cardiogen is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Arg, AEDR) developed by Vladimir Khavinson at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology. It belongs to the same Khavinson bioregulator class as Epithalon and Vesugen, with the cardiac muscle as its proposed tissue-specific target.
Like other Khavinson-class peptides, Cardiogen is proposed to act through nuclear entry and direct interaction with DNA regulatory elements rather than surface receptor binding. The AEDR sequence is theorized to show preferential affinity for promoter or enhancer regions associated with cardiac genes, including those governing cytoskeletal proteins, myosin and troponin expression, and cell survival pathways. Preclinical research using this peptide has examined cardiomyocyte proliferation and suppression of p53-mediated apoptosis in cardiac tissue, positioning Cardiogen as the cardiac-tissue-specific comparator within the broader Khavinson bioregulator research program, alongside Epithalon (pineal-tissue-specific) and Vesugen (vascular-endothelium-specific).
