HMG

HMG (human menopausal gonadotropin, also known as menotropin) is a gonadotropin preparation purified from urinary sources, containing both follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) activity in approximately equal proportions. Unlike hCG, which provides predominantly LH-like activity through a single hormone, HMG supplies both principal gonadotropic signals simultaneously, making it mechanistically distinct from single-hormone gonadotropin preparations in our catalog.

FSH and LH act through separate receptor systems with complementary roles in gonadal research models. FSH primarily targets granulosa cells, driving follicular development and granulosa cell proliferation, while LH activates LHCGR receptors on Leydig and theca cells, triggering steroidogenic cascades and androgen production. This combined dual-signal profile underlies what is described as the "two-cell, two-gonadotropin" model of ovarian steroidogenesis, where LH-stimulated androgen production in theca cells is converted to estrogen in FSH-stimulated granulosa cells. HMG is therefore studied in research models requiring complete hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis stimulation rather than a single isolated pathway.

Reconstitution & Storage
