Vesugen
Vesugen
Vesugen (Lys-Glu-Asp, KED) is a synthetic tripeptide developed by Vladimir Khavinson at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology, belonging to the same class of short peptide bioregulators as Epithalon. While Epithalon is studied for pineal gland and telomerase-related effects, Vesugen's research focus is the vascular endothelium.
Like other Khavinson-class peptides, Vesugen's proposed mechanism involves direct interaction with DNA, specifically binding to the promoter region of the MKI67 gene, which encodes the proliferation marker Ki-67. This epigenetic gene-regulation mechanism is proposed to stimulate endothelial cell proliferation, an activity that naturally declines with age. Preclinical research has examined Vesugen's role in endothelial cell biology, vascular cell renewal, and age-associated vascular decline, positioning it as a tissue-specific comparator within the broader Khavinson bioregulator research program rather than a peptide with a defined receptor target.
